District Happenings

Timmins

  • The District Commissioner, made headlines in February as she was hold-up in the Timmins Square until all her cases of cookies were sold. She was rescued after selling 64 cases of our chocolate/vanilla cookies.
  • A Guider from Timmins, had her idea for a camp stool published in the Canadian Guider- Spring 2000 issue. Look for it on page 34.
  • Earth Day party planned for April.
  • Day Camp in June
  • Missinaibi

  • Kapuskasing now has Sparks and Guides as well as Brownies.
  • Hornepayne Brownies, Guides and Pathfinders have completed the El Salvador Challenge.
  • During Thinking Week a dance was held and the proceeds, $159.63, will be donated to the El Salvador Challenge and the Canadian Friendship Fund.

    The Porcupine

  • The Pathfinders have been meeting at the Spruce Hill Lodge and helping the seniors.
  • The Guides are fundraising for Science North. They are planning a bike raffle and a spaghetti supper.

    Abitibi

  • Their Commissioner is back in full swing after giving birth to her son. Welcome back.
  • All the Units have been working on program.

    James Bay

  • Brownies are close to completing their Opening Windows Challenge.
  • The Sparks are bridging with the Brownies.

    Mattagami

  • Mint Cookie Day went well in spite of the rain. They sold calendars along side the cookies and this went very well.
  • The Brownies and Pathfinders are bridging by going curling.
  • Guides went on a nature walk and learnt some winter survival skills.
  • Pathfinders took Buttercup, their District Bear to their Gold camp.
  • Sparks have toured OPP station and library.
